Our First Patron

We are thrilled to introduce Marianne Alison Louis Fairman, more commonly known as Alison Fairman, as the first patron of The Butterfly Hospice Trust. Alison’s deep connection with the Boston area and her commitment to community and local heritage make her a perfect ambassador for our charity.

A Personal Connection to Boston

Since moving to Boston in 1979, after a year in America, Alison and her family decided that a market town with excellent schools, a new hospital for my husband’s job, walks close to the sea and rich in history, Boston ticked all the right boxes. And Boston became ‘home’. Alison’s involvement in local initiatives—from historical preservation to education—shows her dedication and love for both our town and community.

A Legacy of Community Service

Alison's civic engagement in Boston is extensive and inspiring. She has been instrumental in preserving key historical sites like the Maud Foster Windmill and has dedicated over 25 years to the Citizens’ Advice Bureau. Her roles have showcased her commitment to providing support and guidance to those in need. Additionally, Alison has contributed to the beautification and cultural enrichment of Boston through initiatives like Boston in Bloom and the Boston Hanse Group, meeting residents daily.

Commitment to Local Charity

To Alison, supporting local charity is not just about fundraising; it’s about fostering a community spirit and helping neighbours in need. Her involvement with The Butterfly Hospice Trust began even before its establishment, attending initial meetings and supporting its development since the turn of the millennium. Through her efforts with Boston in Bloom, she helped secure a grant from the Medlock Trust and bought and erected a greenhouse, directly benefiting volunteers and users.

Advocating for Compassionate Care

The importance of Butterfly Hospice cannot be overstated, especially in providing care during the most challenging times. Alison sees the hospice as a beacon of love, compassion, and hope—qualities she believes are essential to community care. As a patron, Alison aims to leverage her vast network and influence to promote the hospice’s mission and ensure its sustainability and growth.

Looking Ahead

Alison envisions a bright future for Butterfly Hospice, including the potential expansion of its facilities and broader recognition of hospice care as an integral part of national health services. Her advocacy efforts will focus on raising awareness and securing support to realise these goals.

Alison Fairman's appointment as the first patron marks another significant milestone as we celebrate a Decade of Care. We are excited to see how her passion and leadership will guide us into a promising future.

We look forward to the positive changes her involvement will undoubtedly bring.
